While using this blog as a playground to develop my WordPress skills, it has gotten to the stage where I have lost the plot. Out have gone any none WP or internet related posts, and I will try and start again. I have managed to set up my reseller site over at www.mahita.net, and I will try and use that to help people setting up blogs. Very soon I will detail how I set up the blog for Mahita, obviously I used WordPress with some heavy hacking. Check back for my mini tutorial.

Forever digging myself into a deeper hole, I was relieved to see this article about allocating various email addresses to certain tasks. Having grown from ‘English teacher’ to ‘English teacher with a business’, with 3 domains and about 10 email addresses, I looked around and was appalled at the mess I had created for myself.
The worst problem is inefficiency, with no structure to my system -if I have the audacity to call it that- I was checking all my mail addresses for all areas of my life. Now, using the above linked article as a guide I have managed the following:
- Personal email address for close friends, family, etc
- ‘Premium’ work address for important work related mail, people I deal with regularly
- General work address for the ‘occasional’ partners
- Social-networking registration address
- Web-site registration mail, which I know will end up on mailing lists
Now everything is in it’s place, all that remains to be seen is how strict I will be with those who send mails to the wrong address. What would you do?

I have just managed to come out of the other end of another WordPress minefield. WordPress 2.6 image captions. Being a natural healer, I am trained to search for the cause before embarking on a cure. I should have applied this rule to WordPress. Look around some of the recent posts, and you will see that the images now have a nice background and a caption underneath, and they are aligned in the post as I desire.
This is part of the new whiter than white twodotsix version of WP. However, it didn’t work out of the box, and I was too keen to mess around with the CSS to get it right, before realising it wasn’t that. How did I know? After a fair deal of frustration, I did a vanilla install of 2.6 with the theme I am using here, Simplr. Everything was fine. My upgrade hadn’t gone well. I removed completely the wp-includes and wp-admin folders and replaced them with fresh files. Better. I disabled all plugins. Perfect. I enabled them again one by one until I reached the culprit; wp-typography 1.6. I can live without the plugin, I guess it will get upgraded sometime soon. Until then, enjoy the captions, which I am using to credit the owners of the photographs I use!

With the release of WordPress 2.6, I noticed my lovely CoolWater theme wasn’t playing ball with the new captions for images. It was a case of tweaking the css file, and taking care of a workaround when the image gallery is reluctant to align images. If you notice any more problems, don’t hesitate to let me know. I for one won’t be rushing to upgrade all my blogs to 2.6 just yet.
